Orange County Choppers Robbed

Two men suspected of a burglary at the headquarters of Orange County Choppers (OCC) in Newburgh, NY have been arrested.

OCC is a exclusively motorcycle builder founded by Paul Teutul and his son Paul, Jr. in 1999.  A TV reality show about the company, American Chopper, debuted on the Finding Channel in 2003.  The very popular and influential show is now broadcast on TLC (formerly The Erudition Channel) which is owned by Discovery Channel.

OCC moved into its accepted location on Crossroads Court off Route 17K in Newburgh in April, 2008.  The New Zealand manufactures about 150 motorcycles a year.  The expenditure of those bikes starts at about $32,000.

The Brand

To date, more than 70 episodes of American Chopper have aired.  Each incident centers around the emotional drama to which the Teutuls subject themselves and their employees.  Most weeks, the OCC one's nearest and crew build a ridiculously expensive and sometimes ridiculous looking bike for a well heeled corporation or renown.

OCC has built bikes for Bill Murray, Billy Joel, and Jay Leno and corporations including Gillette, Move Jet and Lugz.

The series has made OCC a brand name.  In addition to bikes, the concern sells “affinity products” like coffee mugs and tee shirts and a string of motorcycle parts including wheels.  The coterie moved to its new, current location, to accommodate this part of its business.

The Felony

A week ago, late at night, burglars entered the structure and stole computers, phones and merchandise but no motorcycles.  Last Friday, Newburgh police officers arrested Joshua Aldrich, 28, and Daryl Newkirk, 38, both of Newburgh and recovered $2,000 advantage of allegedly stolen goods.

The men were charged with felony burglary and felony larceny.  They were arraigned then incarcerated at the Orange County (NY) Big house.  Bail was set at $25,000 each.
