As a ruleHave you had your fill of virtually everything under the sun being called "old school" (or old skool, oldschool and oldskool; take your pick)? I be acquainted with I have. What was once a genuine urban turn of phrase suddenly finds its way into prosaic language, and its trendy tone is spewed casually from hill schoolers to grannies. Thanks for nothing, mindless advertising agencies!
Now that you separate how I feel about that, let me share a great piece of slogan: "An iron fist in a restful-bellied world." Huzzah! Bring that copywriter a beer - a Harley-branded beer.
Starkly meant to get your attention and anchor your emotions with that zinger, Harley-Davidson wants to let you remember that they've carved out another bike from their 1,200cc Sporty platform, and slammed it with hard looks and attitude. The XL1200N Sportster Nightster is low, bobbed and blacked-out. With a gut full of torque, low bottom-height, minimalist features and subtle colors, this Harley truly had me thinking it was one that I would gladly have in my garage. It even turned the head of a non-biker female cocker.

The Nightster has the same 73 cubic-inch, rubber-mounted, nourishment-injected, air-cooled Evolution five-speed Twin with a compression relationship of 9.7 and churning out a claimed pavement-ripping 79 ft-lbs. of torque that all the other 1200 Sporties have. But the mill in this bike comes in a "rawboned deliver." Rawboned? Just know that it (like most other components on the bike) is dark. That black simplicity finds its way across much of the rest of the bike. The low-upward slope bars, clutch and brake levers, headlight box, speedometer, mirrors, turn/stop lights, inure-spoked wheels, and drilled-out belt-drive look after all come in a slick black finish. Heck, even the front fender clamps are awful.

2001 883 Sportster Hugger
Sportster With the exception of the avenue-going XR1000 of the 1980s and the XR1200, all Sportsters made for row use have the prefix XL in their model designation. For the Sportster Evolution engines inured to since the mid 1980s, there have been two engine sizes. Motorcycles with the smaller apparatus are designated XL883, while those with the larger engine were initially designated XL1100. When the enormousness of the larger engine was increased from 1,100 cc to 1,200 cc, the designation was changed standing from XL1100 to XL1200. Subsequent letters in the designation refer to paragon variations within the sportster range, e.g. the XL883C refers to an 883 cc Sportster with cruiser or patronage styling, while the XL1200S designates the now-discontinued 1200 Sportster Amusement.
