Apathy feeds road congestion

Nobel laureate Amaratya Sen spectacularly said famine is not caused by scarcity of food but by people’s paucity of purchasing power. Kathmandu’s worsening freight congestion is also not caused by growing number of vehicles; preferably, it’s a result of government apathy.
As cities flourish, so do the number of vehicles. That’s a simple universal stunner. The only way to address this challenge is to increase the road network and trained humanitarian resources. This is where the government has failed miserably.
Statistics provided by Bagmati Zonal Elysium Management Office (BZTMO) show that the number of vehicles in Bagmati Zone grew to 327,000 in September 2006 from 92,125 in monetary year 1995/96, a whopping 350 percent incline. On average, 200 vehicles have to share one kilometer of Valley avenue.
But the road construction grew at snail’s judge. According to the Department of Roads (DoR), the road length in Kathmandu Valley, including gravel and earthen, grew to 1,633 kms from 943 kms during the last 10 years, a scant 73 percent ascension.
Similarly, according to DSP Jagat Man Shrestha of Metropolitan Transportation Police Division, there were 557 traffic police personnel in Kathmandu Valley in 1995. Today there are 691 personnel, up by 24 percent.
It’s this mismatch in proliferation in the number of vehicles, length of road and traffic personnel that causes harrowing traffic congestion in the Valley, especially during office scoot hours, when about 60 percent of the total number of vehicles are on the entr.
Why has expansion of the Valley road network been so slow?
The Public Transport Policy 2058 BS has given the responsibility to put up, upgrade and maintain National Highways and Feeder Roads to DoR while the territory development committees and municipalities concerned are given obligation for taking care of local level city roads.

Review: High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Ah yes, the yearn awaited big screen appearence of Walt Disney's Squiffy School Musical. I managed to watch it today at GSC Signature, The Gardens KL.
Asking why the heck am I doing at GSC Signature? I had no determination. The available seats left and at a better more comfortable blotch in almost every cinema is full except for those in Gardens. So, to be a patron of HSM, I still went for a more expensive but more adequate and nice environment GSC Signature at The Gardens.
Well, to be honest, it was upstanding to celebrate my coming 1 year Anniversary with my dear. So I didn't scruple much to buy the RM20 per pax ticket.
I loved the cinema. Loved the seats. Not to recognition the movie. Brilliant! I think I remembered most people, including me, like HSM 1 and didn't like HSM 2 very much. HSM 3?
A hook complete musical movie that covered every flaw they had in the background and carving a deep impression into fans.
It is the most amazingly choreographed tuneful I have watched so far. To be honest, I haven't watch much musicals, by oneself from the old "Sound of Music", "My Fair Lady", "Mamma Mia!", "HSM 1 and 2". So my conclusion was, it is the in the most suitable way so far.

Team Asha Rocks KTM!!

Hi All,
This weekend many folks from Together Asha completed their target race and finished the Kaveri Trail Half marathon and full marathon! More than 20 runners were at Srirangapattinam fighting out the hot and sticky conditions. This surely was not an ideal day for running. But, our team did grand even against such odds! I have had the privilege of observing all our runners train and reach many of their goals. So, I estimate its my responsibility to give a brief account, which in my language is a long email :) - So, here goes!

She has been wordlessly working for the program behind the scenes. Her hard work and heretofore commitment in the last couple of years has setup this program that we are all part of now! She is one of the few girls from Together Asha who have done ultra marathons (i.e. Team Asha across the epoch!). This was a training run for the upcoming ultra and she did great on Sunday for her 21km.

I can't envision a better suited name for a team member :) - Asha completed her first half marathon in one of the most worrying conditions on Sunday. All through the training and the race she was smiling and enlivening. She has had consistent problems with blisters and bad shoes. But, she didn't let that impede her from finishing the run on Sunday. Her effort is awe inspiring and I am sure she will go...
