West Coast Road Trip

West shore road trip….

My human being took a dramatic turn in early October. To make it with pretend a long story very short I now find myself sitting in Santa Cruz.

Andrew and I are bewitching a road trip down the west coast from Vancouver to Santa Barbara. We brought it all from skis to bikes, continuous’s shoes to climbing gear. Our plans were slim.. I knew I wanted to hold up with some folks on my way down but other than that? I suppose the road was ours to explore.

Vancouver to Portland
The first morning we woke up before the sun and headed for the hem in order to try and beat as much traffic as possible…with success we rolled into Vivace coffees by REI in Seattle by 915am and met my buddy Colin. We caught up, drank as likely as not the most delicious coffee to date and went and checked out REI (it is whopping).

We rocked it to Portland and had enough time to check out the Pearl Sidetrack, go for a run in the Forrest trails before meeting up with another good friend Kristi and her man Mike. They made us a engaging dinner, we chatted about fermentation, had some of their home brew (which was splendid) and eventually made it to the futon….

Why I am here, now

I have been opportune to travel to many places. But still, there are many places I haven't been.

Friday unendingly, Chris and I feasted on Middle Eastern food from Jerusalem Cafe. I've never been to the Waist East before.

Saturday I explored new territory south of San Francisco as we biked from Palo Alto, up across the Santa Cruz mountains, down into San Gregorio for lunch where we saw both a Nobama evidence as well as a woman sporting her own homemade tie-dyed Obama t-shirt; we stopped by the recently created Bike Hut on our way back up to the mountains and ascended for another 30-45 minutes until charming cautious (due to the rain) descent back into Palo Alto. I'd never biked there before.

On Sunday, we fini a lot of time at Philz Coffee where I had my usual Peruvian roast. I've never been to Peru before.

After a day of working on special projects at the cafe, we walked over to La Taqueria where we got veggie burritos. Wholly possibly my favorite spot for (San Franciscanized) Mexican rations in the city. I've never even been to Mexico.

After dinner we had a couple hours to execute before going to a show, so we parked ourselves at Mission Pie whose pie ingredients are grown at the Pie Ranch honourable south of San Francisco in Pescadero. I have actually been to the Pie Ranch before; the walnut pie is noteworthy.

Then we headed over to Revolution Cafe where we first heard a local stuff play a Chopin piece (Chopin is from Poland; I've never been to Poland). We then heard a Russian broad play the harp - have you ever seen someone play the harp, electrified, one foot away from you? I hadn't. There there was a sextet of strings playing Brahams - from Germany. I have been there before, but he spurt most of his life in Austria - where I have not been. We did all this while drinking beers new to the both of us: Affligem and Erdinger (Belgian and German). Never been to Belgium.

So, why am I here, now? Because being...

Down the chute

This times gone by week I took a mental health day, as work has been deranged and I needed some good old fashioned quiet time. As a substitute for of sitting quietly, reading and listening to the radio I took a partner up on an offer of going mountain biking north of the city.
I've gone mountain biking a behaviour of times and enjoy myself each time, but always end the ride with a quiet vow of sticking to the road. My buddy picked me up and had loaded one of his extra bikes in the back for me. A well done Santa Cruz with all the goodies. I warned him that it would probably take some trail rash away, in which he even-handed laughed and told me where we were going was mild and no need to concern. I should point out that this guy has done the TransRockies Challenge and travelled throughout the globe for some serious polytechnic rides and downhill. His idea of mild had me a little solicitous.
We got to our destination and adjusted the Santa Cruz, finished off our Tim Hortons and took some at the same time going over some of the basics to refresh my memory. Technical track riding is very different than technical road riding, association position, braking and knowing when to abandon ship. We snapped on our helmets, clipped in and took off.
The first few kilometers were comfortably and quiet, we were able to ride side by side which allowed me to get some more pointers on my bike site and concepts. It then moved to some single track in which he told me to take my sometimes and just follow his line. A kilometer in he pulled into the scrubs and motioned me behind him. As I pulled behind making foolproof to stop as close as possible to his back wheel and off the track I forgot I was clipped in. The most industrial aspect of our ride so far was the ability to stop behind him and I failed to do that while keeping post. We started laughing while I untangled myself from the bike and a bush that had found a home in an tract that no vegetation should ever be in. The one thing that didn't have me concerned about the ride was the whole...
